Location (view location)
The 0,9 MWel / 5 MWth biomass co-generation plant is situated in one of the most forested areas of Austria, the Waldviertel. The excellent traffic connection allows for a frictionless transport of the material with lorries and secures the efficient usage of the regenerative energy source wood. The current production has an output of 0,9MWel and 4.5 MW Long-distance heating. The current produced heat by the power plant is fed in the local net of EVN the lower Austrian energy utility.
Concept
The power plant processes 10.000 tons of wood garbage annually, mainly from the surrounding areas. It is delivering more than 7.000 MWh current to the local power supply system and 19.000 MWh heat annually to a neighboring plant, which is connected to the Long-distance heating net. Most relevant purchaser are the city of Allentsteig, the military training area and a rehabilitation centre. Built by the Polytechnik the ORC Technology allows a permanent production of current and heat with low costs for maintenance. With a local capacity for building up stock for six weeks and long term delivery contracts is adequately provided with raw material. The power plant was developed by Cycleenergy and works since November 2008.
The CHP has an additional annual heat production capacity of 16.000 MWh. Heat can be provided as hot water (forward temperature 90°C, return temperature 60 °C). Backup and peak capacity can be provided from the neighboring biomass heating plant.
