Location
The plant is located in the region called Eisenwurzen in Lower Austria. Situated at the edge of the town of Gresten, it is an excellent example of a decentralized energy source, supplying heat to some of Gresten’s 2000 inhabitants and 2 MW of electricity to the national grid. The plant has excellent access to county roads..
Concept
Cycleenergy operates the plant in cooperation with Porr AG, a renowned Austrian construction company, who built the plant. Consuming 17,500 dry tonnes of wood waste, mostly from surrounding areas, the plant delivers 16,000 MWh of electricity and 5,800 MWh of heat per annum to local heating grids. Built by Axima, its steam turbine technology allows steady generation of electric current while delivering heat based on demand, which is much higher in the winter months. With ample local storage for raw materials, the plant shares a common raw materials supply line with Cycleenergy’s other wood burning biomass power plants.
The plant has been in operation since May of 2007.
