With trial-operations having started in January, the CHP biomass plant in Allentsteig, Lower Austria was put into full operation at the beginning of April. Acceptance tests of the boiler are expected to be performed within the coming weeks.
Situated near the town of Allentsteig and close to a military training ground, it will supply electricitiy to the national grid and heat to the town and living quarters of the training ground via the district heating grid operated by Fernwärmegenossenschaft Allentsteig.
The plant consumes 10,000 dry tonnes of wood waste and delivers more than 7,000 MWh of electricity and 19,000 MWh of heat per annum to local heating grids via a contract with EVN. Built by Polytechnik, its ORC technology allows steady generation of electric power while delivering heat based on demand, which is much higher in the winter months. With a local wood chip storage capacity of one month, the plant shares a common raw materials supply line with Cycleenergy’s other wood burning biomass power plants.
Together with the existing plants in Aschach and Gresten Cycleenergy Beteiligungs- und Management AG now has an operational portfolio of 22 MW.
