The idea behind Cycleenergy was born in 2005, when demand for solutions based on renewable energy started to grow continuously. Only a few months after the launch of Cycleenergy Group in 2006, the biomass power plant projects in Aschach and Gresten have been acquired. These two almost identical power plants (each producing 2 MWel and 5.6 MWth) laid the foundation for the further development of Cycleenergy. Three years later, in 2009, another major evolutionary step was made with the acquisition of the Gaishorn biomass power plant (4.3 MWel and 12 MWth) and its associated pellet plant.
A restructuring process in 2011 and 2012 led to changes in the ownership structure. The majority of Cycleenergy shares are now held by the investors of Treïs, a family investment group owned by a French family of entrepreneurs.
Treïs focuses on the long-term investment of its assets in sustainable technologies and industries, and since coming on board at Cycleenergy has supported the strategy of Cycleenergy and the sustainable growth of the entire group.
